If you are looking for one-to-one online Quran classes, you will quickly notice that almost every academy shows a monthly price — $38, $40, $55 — and that they all look roughly the same. They are not. The single most important detail is usually in small print: how long each lesson is.

We compared the published prices of four popular online Quran academies with our own plans, and worked out what you actually pay for each hour with a teacher. Here is what we found, explained simply.

How much do online Quran classes cost in 2026?

For one-to-one lessons with a live teacher, most academies charge between about $38 and $85 per month, depending on how many lessons you take each week. Almost all of the popular academies build their plans around 30-minute lessons.

At first glance, the monthly prices are very close. The difference is that our lessons are twice as long.

The number that matters: price per hour of teaching

A 30-minute lesson and a 60-minute lesson are not the same product. So the fairest way to compare is to divide the monthly price by the hours of teaching you actually receive. We counted four weeks a month — the same way these academies count (2 lessons a week = 8 lessons a month).

In plain terms: for about the same monthly price as a 2-lessons-a-week plan elsewhere, our Starter plan gives you 8 hours of teaching a month instead of 4.

Why lesson length matters for learning

Longer lessons are not automatically better — but for most adult learners and older children, they help in three ways:

  • More reading time. In a 30-minute lesson, a few minutes go to greetings, connection and review. In a 60-minute lesson, there is real time left to read, be corrected, and read again.
  • Room for tajweed. Fixing a pronunciation habit takes repetition. Our guide on how to learn tajweed step by step explains why rushing rules rarely works.
  • Fewer lessons for the same progress. Two 60-minute lessons can cover what would otherwise take four 30-minute ones, which is easier to fit into a busy week.

Where other academies may suit you better

A fair comparison should be honest about the other side, too:

  • Very young children (about 4–7) often focus better in 30-minute lessons. If that is your child, a shorter-lesson plan may be the right choice — or ask us about your child's needs during the free diagnostic.
  • Free trial lessons. Several academies offer two or three free trial classes. We offer one free 30-minute diagnostic with a teacher, which is focused on finding your exact level and a plan.
  • Family discounts. Al Tahoor, for example, lists 10% off for a second child and 15% for a third. Our answer for families is the Household plan: one shared plan for two family members.
  • Very large teacher pools. Bigger academies can offer more time slots. Check that the times you need are available before you commit, wherever you sign up.

What to check before you pay any academy

  1. Minutes per lesson — and whether the teacher is late or leaves early.
  2. Lessons per month, not just per week.
  3. One-to-one or group. All prices in this article are for one-to-one lessons. Our comparison of one-to-one and group classes explains the difference.
  4. Teacher qualifications. Ask about ijazah and experience teaching your age group. Our guide on what an ijazah is explains what to ask.
  5. Cancelling and changing plans. Ours: you can cancel or change pace with one month's notice.
  6. Feedback between lessons. Voice-note feedback and progress reports make a big difference to how fast you improve.
